TEST KITS FOR MALARIA FOUND INEFFECTIVE

Scientists have revealed that the test kits that have been used for finding out whether one is with malaria are ineffective.

The new study has found with the readily rapid diagnostic tests which are called RDT used in testing malaria are missing some positive CSP to those who have low levels of of the disease and to some patients who are symptomatic for malaria, those are patients who don’t show any sign that they are ill.

The observation of the study whose results were released this morning started in 2019 by the ministry of health.

It was evaluating the value of two methods for testing malaria where they use the common RDT as one method and also on the other hand use the high sensitive abbot test also known as HSRDTS and they also tested 3390 women who were seeking antenatal care for the disease and found 304, 11% had malaria despite having malaria treatment as a prevention and yet some reported using mosquito nets.

When it came to random community testing where they picked 3009 children below the age of 5 in high malaria districts, 79.7% of them tested positive something which tickled researchers on this aspect.

Speaking at the launch of its findings, the health minister’s permanent secretary Atwine Diana said that they are now planning to use high sensitivity technology instead of the ordinary RDTS to test for malaria.
